APES and their music are anti folded arm. Listen to their indie rock (by way of garage) swagger and it's impossible to stand with arms folded across chest. The buzzy 'Seven' with it's numerical count along chorus is an attack on jaded complacency. A defence for fun and quality music.
The young four piece – all in their early twenties - are originally from Ballarat and were once called the Boo Hoo Hoo's. They moved to Melbourne, changed their name and in their short time together have blasted their bluesy garage on stages across Melbourne and toured the east coast of Australia. The debut single 'Seven' will be released October 12th 2012.
Led by vocalist and guitarist Benjamin Dowd the APES sound is one that owes as much to the indie punk bombast of the Hives and as it does the the moody atmospherics of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. But combining an ear for scrappy melody and strong hooks APES make it a sound of their own. A sound for unfolding arms.

When that guitar slid along the fretboard, I stopped what I was doing. When the drums came in, I turned it up. When the song ended, I played it again...

Pure, unadulterated rock n' roll. Ben's voice is dirty yet smooth, like the best kind of cigars, liqueurs and smash rock n' roll hits. 10/10.
