Interview: 13 April 2010
Tell us about your music – how did you develop your sound?
E - It's just been a slow process really... it's gone from me trying to emulate the sounds of the artists that I look up to, to trying to create my own little niche and to satisfy myself with pushing my own limits. I've opened my ears to a lot of new genres and artists as well, which has really expanded the way that I produce & structure music.

J.U - We listen to a lot of different genres, so I think it was just a natural thing to want to play with elements from whatever we dig, and squash it into our own vibe. Elgen’s production style is very indie-rock based, which I think kind've gives it all a slightly different feel. So it's not really your standard boom bap production, which hopefully works in our favour, Haha. I'm a huge fan of acts like P.O.S, Brother Ali, Atmosphere, Grieves etc, who, to me, are all lyrically amazing, so I guess my writing style developed with the need to articulate myself as well as they do.

What can the Groovin the Moo audience expect from your live show?
J.U - A showcase of new and old songs, and a nerve-induced energetic set, Haha. We're really excited, so hopefully we can really turn it on for the Maitland audience.

E - Well, there'll be some songs getting played from our EP, but there'll also be a mix of some new stuff that we've got done for our upcoming album... It's a little more focused with a heavier rock influence & I think that'll be reflected in the show.

Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Groovin the Moo?
E - It's a really fine line between Silverchair & Spoon, I think. Tough one! I haven't gotten to see The Funkoars live yet, either.

J.U - Tegan and Sara, I've still got their album ‘So Jealous’ on high rotation, so I’m pumped to catch them, Haha. The Funkoars, too. I've supported them a couple of times and their live show is always crazy.

What’s coming up in the future?
E - Currently we're just trying to juggle getting our album done with everything else in our lives, haha. It can be a tricky mix!

J.U - At the moment we're in the process of recording our debut LP, which with any luck will be out around October. Aside from that we're really just looking to play as many shows as possible and get out name out there a little more.

Australian music is?
J.U - Changing. There's an insane amount of young artists beginning to make their mark lately, so it's a pretty cool time to be making an album.

E - Exciting. I'm always hearing something new that I love & I really think that in general, Australia produces some of the finest music anyone could hope to find. I'm proud to be a little part of the Australian music landscape & I hope I can contribute something of lasting quality to it.
